Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the rest of the D1 Independents fall again to the Army Black Knights for the second week in a row. We love the Army helmet, but where o where is the vaunted Irish fan base?

In Conference USA the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles put up huge numbers to take Week 2 and are now tied for the conference lead with Florida Atlantic Owls. Who will win Week 3? We’ve heard some rumblings about that Old Dominion Monarchs’ helmet – can they get out of the vote?

Florida State Seminoles have received the most votes in the ACC, yet they have yet to score a point. Top teams each week receive a point (or half-point in a tie, quarter point in a tie between more than two teams). The Seminoles placed second to Syracuse in Week 1 and third to Miami in Week 2.

Campbell Fighting Camels in the Pioneer Conference have possibly the most unique name (Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan in the North Coast Athletic Conference comes to mind) and they won Week 1, but a new helmet from the Drake Bulldogs wins Week 2 easily.

In the Big 12, Kansas State take it on the chin on the turf vs Vanderbuilt, but wins easily in Week 2 of Helmet Bowl. They garner more than twice the votes as the second place Texas Longhorns this week and take a 2-0 lead over everyone here. Is this silver and purple helmet the best in the Big 12? Is it West Virginia Mountaineer fans?

In the Southland Conference, updated helmets drove votes up and up. This is anyone’s conference, but the Central Arkansas Bears win Week 2 in a close one over the Incarnate Word Cardinals and the McNeese State Cowboys. Northwestern State, who won Week 1 here, lacked the votes and scored the lowest in Week 2 – that’s right, last.

In the Great Plains Conference, the Benedictine Ravens won Week 2 over last week’s winner MidAmerican Nazarene Pioneers by ONE Vote. This is going to be a battle to watch.

The Central Missouri Mules once again lead all vote-getters, including the Mid-American Central Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, who again place second. What is it going to take to get the Bearcats a win? A valiant effort by the Sports Information Director? An Alumni Association push? Free ice cream at the gates during Family Weekend vs Missouri Southern?
