Oregon Ducks break a standings tie with Arizona State and now leads the Pac 12 by a score of 3-2. Though we expected the Ducks to dominate, they do seem to have taken the wheel here.

Woo Pig Souie! The Arkansas Razorbacks win Week 8 of the SEC Helmet Bowl Conference Championship, breaking a standing’s tie with the University of Georgia Bulldogs. The Razorbacks lead 3.5 over the Dawgs 2.5 points. Technically, Ole Miss could win the conference with a final two week sweep.

A dozen Conference Champions whose conference totals the least number of votes earn the high honor of Helmet Bowl I Conference Champions, but will not advance to the National Championship. With two weeks to go, these Conferences have the least number of votes (with the least number of votes first):
Division II Independents (UNC Pembroke Braves)
Northern Athletics Collegiate (Aurora Spartans, Benedictine Eagles, Concordia Chicago Cougars, CUW Falcons)
Southern Intercollegiate Athletic (Lane Dragons)
Commonwealth Coast Conference (Endicott Gulls)
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic (St. Thomas Tommies)
College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (Illinois Wesleyan Titans)
Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic (Bridgewater State Bears)
Midwest (Illinois Blueboys)
Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic (Finlandia Lions)
Presidents' Athletic (Thomas More Saints)
North Coast Athletic (Oberlin Yoemen)
Middle Atlantic (Misericordia Cougars)

The Top 5 Teams with the most number of votes (listed most first) in Week 8 are:
Kansas State Wildcats

Ohio State with a stunner over Penn State Saturday night on the field, then takes Week 8 in Helmet Bowl from the Michigan Wolverines by ONE VOTE! Maybe it was those chrome helmets with the red buckeye flowers. They move within one point of the Wolverines in the Big 10 standings.

The Helmet Bowl National Championship bracket of 64 teams launches Tuesday, November 28. The bracket will be divided into four regions, with teams seeded 1-16 in each. Teams are seeded by the most number of votes they receive in Helmet Bowl Conference polls. Though geography may not allow the top four teams from all receiving #1 seeds, here are the top eight teams in voting, starting with the most first:
Central Missouri Mules*
NW Missouri State Bearcats
Valdosta State Blazers
Howard Bison
Kansas State Wildcats
Southern Miss Golden Eagles
San Diego State Aztecs
Ferris State Bulldogs*
3
*Oddly enough, the Central Missouri Mules, with the most total votes of any team in Helmet Bowl I Conference polling, do not lead their conference. Same with the Ferris State Bulldogs, who are tied in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the Ashland Eagles and the Wayne State Warriors.

We MUST mention the Central Michigan Chippewas here. They became the only undefeated team after Black Sunday eliminated six of seven undefeateds in Week 7. The Chips continue their winning ways in Week 8. Look for the Helmet Bowl interview with CMU Equipment Coordinator Michael McPike next week.

The Colonial Athletic suddenly got interesting. For weeks, the Richmond Spiders were a bit of a wonderment. There are no spiders in college football except for
them. They’ve got the helmet everyone expects with a team name like Spiders, but didn’t gather much attention at first. After toying with the idea of winning a week or two, the Spiders have charged into a tie with the once unapproachable Elon Phoenix. Two points left and they each have 4.
